How To Clean Silver Naturally

September 11, 2021 By Autumn

When I inherited vintage twin silver urns, I wanted to clean them without the use of chemicals. Removing tarnish naturally is actually simple. First, cover your sink with aluminum foil and fill it with hot water. Add a half cup each of kosher salt and baking soda and dissolve. Soak the silver items in the liquid for 3-5 minutes. After removing, rinse well and buff with a soft towel or cloth. Use more salt and baking soda for larger pieces. If necessary, use toothpaste for tough spots, or soak pieces a second time. Note that this won’t polish silver, only clean it. It’s also possible to use vinegar to clean silver naturally.

Key Takeaways:

  • Having tarnished silver as decoration is fashionable now, but some people still want their silver shiny.
  • You only need salt and baking soda to make a natural silver cleaner that works wonders.
  • Follow these easy steps to get beautiful shiny silver without harsh cleaning products.

“Thankfully, I was able to do so…and they turned out so well that I wanted to share this method with you, too!”

6 TIPS FOR DECORATING A SMALL DINING ROOM

September 9, 2021 By Autumn

When decorating a dining room in a small space, the first thing to remember is to keep it simple. Avoid clutter and excess embellishments to maintain plenty of negative space. Select a table that is at least three feet less in length and width than the room. Then, choose a rug that is at least 30 inches larger than the table. For the table and chairs, mixing and matching is a good way to create interest. Other decorating tips include adding a large mirror to increase the perception of space and installing a chandelier or pendant light centered above the table. Finally, use a color palette that is similar to the rest of your home to make the dining room feel like part of a larger whole.

Key Takeaways:

  • Use these tips if you want to decorate a small space, whether it be a dining room, breakfast nook, or more.
  • Small spaces can look cluttered quickly, so make sure you keep your designs clean and unfussy.
  • Choose a table that leaves you a full yard of clear space between it and any walls.

“So how do you decorate a small dining area to look welcoming, be cohesive with the rest of your home, and be a fabulous place to sit down for a meal and make memories!”

All About Color: How to Choose the Right Color Palette for Your Home

July 7, 2021 By Autumn

When choosing the right color scheme for your home, a variety of approaches are available. A monochromatic scheme is one choice. This isn’t just black and white, but can involve earth tones or perhaps various shades of blue. An analogous color palette involves adjacent colors on the color wheel. This could combine yellow with orange or blue with green. In contrast, complementary colors are on the opposite sides of the wheel, such yellow and purple, or blue and brown. Another strategy is to use triadic colors. These are three colors spaced evenly across the wheel, such as yellow, blue and red. When choosing, think about the mood you want to convey, and consider the lighting and the architectural style of the home.

Key Takeaways:

  • Get some ideas from the things you already own, such as a magazine you have saved or some special items around the house.
  • Monochromatic colors are simple but they also make a statement. White helps to balance everything out and give a natural feeling.
  • Analogous color palettes can be somewhat difficult to understand at first but when you learn how to apply it, it can really spice up a room.

“When choosing a color palette for your home, many things come into play.”
