The 10 Commandments For Grandparents

April 29, 2021 By Autumn

As a grandparent, you play an important role in the lives of your grandchildren, but it’s a supporting role. You need to understand that this is the chance for your adult children to raise their kids their own way. Parents, not grandparents, make the rules for their kids. Don’t give unsolicited advice and don’t criticize lest it stir up resentment. Furthermore, permit your children to set your boundaries with respect to their kids. However, you can set boundaries regarding, say, having to babysit without pay. Try to stay open to new ideas and changing times and, finally, try to teach and inspire your grandchildren.

Key Takeaways:

  • As a grandparent you need to understand that your parents now make the rule for their children, not you.
  • As a grandparent, your role is to be as supportive as possible to both your children and your grandchildren.
  • As a grandparent, don’t give advice to your children or grandchildren unless asked for it. Always be a good listener but let them try to figure out their own solutions.

“As I was having these total “delusions” of grandeur, I thought this was my chance to make right all the wrongs I had committed on my own children.”

SOMETIMES BORING DECOR IS BEST

April 27, 2021 By Autumn

Interior design styles like mid-century modern, Tuscan, and even farmhouse can be trendy. They come in and out of style, leaving once beautiful homes see a bit dated. So, one of the best ways to timelessly decorate your home is by keeping your decor boring. It’s best to utilize pieces of furniture that have neutral colors and can blend in with almost any room. In other words, the classic look is the classic look because it’s, well, classic.

Key Takeaways:

  • Boring design is neutral, clean and classic, and it goes with everything.
  • The bigger the furniture piece, the more neutral and classic it should be.
  • Trendy decor still has its place, but foundational furnishings should be neutral and classic.

“I’ve wanted to write this post for a long long time because it can help you create beauty in your home and avoid costly decorating mistakes.”

SPRING – STORIES BY GRUMPS

April 25, 2021 By Autumn

When my grandkids would come to visit, they would enjoy the bedtime stories that I would tell them. You don’t have to worry too much about a theme, and just be sure to add some situations that they can relate to. You can write about anything that you want, and if the kids have any pets, you can include them in the story as well. The stories should end with a laugh, or they could even be about a superhero of some sort.

Key Takeaways:

  • Include your grandchildren in the stories you tell them, making them the heroes if possible.
  • Tell stories about your own childhood so they know what you were like as a kid.
  • Use holidays such as Christmas as the focus of your stories.

“If your grandkids have a doll or little stuffed animals they drag around, feature them.”

Learning From Others Is A Gift We All Owe Ourselves

April 23, 2021 By Autumn

We get a valuable experience and knowledge when we learn through our mistakes. As social beings, the gift of learning that others can provide is even more valuable. Thirst for knowledge is natural to humans, and the opportunity and ability to learn are often not appreciated enough. Our teachers can be different people in our lives, from our parents and friends, to our colleagues and even strangers, and all of them provide knowledge along different dimensions coupled with unique experiences.

Key Takeaways:

  • Take some time to really think about what gives you pleasure, and start to plan trips and vacations around that thing.
  • Make sure that you believe in yourself as this is a very critical aspect of being a human being and being able to accomplish things.
  • Try to set an example for your children and/or grandchildren as you want them to see you as a role model.

“Every day creates a new learning experience when you take the time to listen to others and observe the world around you.”
