Digital Photography 101 – All About Resolution
11 Jun 2010, written by AlishaWith most people using digital cameras, often people end up with poor quality pictures when they go to enlarge them. Often times, the problem is that the image doesn’t have a high enough resolution. But, before we can talk about the basics of good resolution for printing pictures, we first have to start with the basics.
What is Resolution?
Resolution is the number of dots per linear inch in a printed photograph or could be the number of pixels on a display screen. So, when you hear the word “mega pixel” it’s referring to the number of pixels which ultimately impacts the quality of your resolution.
Either way, when you take a digital picture you want high enough resolution so you can have crisp and clear pictures especially when printing out pictures.
The problem is that sometimes people don’t realize the importance of resolution and are instead concerned with taking as many pictures as possible on their memory card. That’s why many people shoot images in low resolution because it takes more memory to shoot in high resolution. And more memory requires more memory cards and ultimately costs more.
However, if you want to print out pictures for giving as a gift or for displaying in a picture frame you should be shooting in high (or at least medium) resolution.
Image Resolution
The best advice for getting high quality pictures is to use the highest possible resolution on your camera. As technology continues to improve, the resolution of digital cameras will continue to get better. So, instead of giving specific mega pixels for printing different sizes of pictures, simply set your camera to the highest resolution possible (or the largest number of mega pixels) and you should be able to print a quality picture up to common photo sizes like 8×10 or possibly even larger.
Taking pictures in high resolution simply gives you more options for what you can do with your pictures. If you have a high resolution picture, you can always resize the picture for a smaller print. So, if you want to be sure that your photos will look good in a beautiful picture frame then make sure you’re always shooting your pictures in the highest possible resolution.

Our New Mobile Website
04 Jun 2010, written by AlishaWe’re happy to announce that our new mobile picture frame website is finally here!
For those of you who may not know what a “mobile” site is- it’s essentially a website designed for mobile phone users that has a URL that ends in “.mobi”. This allows mobile users to be able to view our website easily and shop for frames from their mobile devices. A mobile site (.mobi) is different than a traditional “.com” site because it’s designed for a small screen size. Because of the small screen size, we designed our mobi site to have more simple navigation and a smaller selection of frames compared to our YourPictureFrames.com site.
And if you’re wondering if you can ONLY view a mobile website on a mobile device? No, you can also view mobi sites on a PC or Mac as well as a mobile device. But, you’ll find that the size of the mobi website is rougly the size of a phone so it makes viewing on your computer monitor not very good.
So, get on your mobile phone (or desktop computer if you want) and check it out at www.YourPictureFrames.mobi and let us know what you think. We ‘d love to hear your feedback
We tried to make it easy to use and give you helpful information to make buying frames fun and convenient. On our mobile site we have information about our online store, frequently asked questions (FAQs), contact information and a selection of frames to browse. We have a selection of Top 10 Favorites Frames that regularly changes as well as special clearance deals. Right now, you can’t order frames on our Mobile site, however we hope to offer that functionality in the future.
In celebration of the launch of YourPictureFrames.mobi site we will be offering a special mobile coupon available by visiting our mobile site. And if you want to hear about our monthly frame deals and specials, you can text he word “frames” to the number “69302.” This will give you access to our exclusive YPF Mobile Frame Club which offers a once a month SMS text message.
Come join us by texting the word frames to the number 69302 so you won’t miss out on our YPF Mobile Frame Club deals.
Wedding Picture Frames
02 Jun 2010, written by Alisha
With the approach of summer, it’s quickly becoming the most popular time of the year for weddings. If you’re looking for a wedding picture frame as a gift or for displaying at a wedding, then here are a few things to keep in mind.
The first thing you should consider is the purpose or use of the picture frame. If you’re giving the wedding frame as a gift, you want to find out if the bride and groom prefer silver, gold or wood tones. Try to narrow down the type of material they prefer first and then look at the different styles of frames. By doing it this way, you’ll save time and avoid getting overwhelmed with all of the choices.
If you’re looking for a wedding gift, check out our wedding picture frames so you can get a feel for all the different types of frames available. But, if you need help narrowing it down, then let’s first start with metal.
Metal Wedding Picture Frame Gifts
For metal, sterling silver and silver plated picture frames are very common as gifts. Sterling silver and silver plate are popular because you can have them engraved and they have a beautiful sheen that looks gorgeous. Unfortunately, there are a few downsides with sterling and silver plate. With a metal finish, you have to be more careful caring for them as the finish can be easily scratched and may also require polishing if your frame doesn’t have a lacquer coating. Silver plate and sterling silver frames are also more expensive and can vary widely in price.
Another option for a metal frame, are jeweled wedding picture frames. Like sterling and silver plate, jeweled picture frames vary widely in price from hand crafted frames with faux crystals to designer frames with real crystals and gemstones. Although we currently don’t offer any real crystal studded frames, we do offer a lovely line of jeweled picture frames in a more affordable price point.
Wood Wedding Picture Frame Gifts
If you’re looking for wood wedding frames, gold leaf, silver leaf and white wood frames are among the most popular. Wood is so popular because its easy affordable, easy to maintain (you don’t have to worry about polishing or scratching), comes in a wide range of styles and it compliments most types of decor. The gold leaf and silver leaf finishes are especially popular because they have a more expensive look and give the wood a hint of a metallic gold or silver sophistication. Gold leaf picture frames are generally more popular for weddings, while the silver leaf picture frames seem to be more popular for anniversaries. However, it really comes down to the colors that the bride prefers.
Wedding Picture Frame Displays
Wedding frames are also very popular for displaying at the wedding.
You can find wedding frames beautifully displaying the couple’s picture near the guest book or gift table and are commonly used as table displays, wedding favors or bridesmaids gifts. If you’re buying the wedding frame to be displayed as a table display then make sure that all sides of the frame are nicely finished. Most frames do have finished backs, but some are prettier than others. For example, this jeweled wedding picture frame was designed specifically to have a decorative back and makes a perfect frame for a gorgeous table display.
If you’re looking for a wedding picture frame that can be used as a memorable wedding favor, small thank you gift, or to identify the table number for assigned seating, this small trio of jeweled wedding frames will be sure to do the trick. Or, if you’re looking for a little larger frame you can also use this 3×3 jeweled wedding frame.
With so many beautiful wedding picture frames to choose from, make sure to always know the color and style scheme first so you’ll be sure to select a wedding picture frame that will become a treasured family favorite for years to come.
